What it does
Hindsight is two mods in one. It quietly records every block change on your world or server, so you can stand in any build, press one key and watch it rise from empty ground, with ghosts of the players who built it placing every block.
It also records your play sessions, on any server, so you can fly through them afterwards, set up camera paths and export perfectly smooth videos. Your ReplayMod and Flashback recordings open in Hindsight too, and it converts replays to and from both. Unlike either of those, Hindsight also runs on NeoForge.
Build timelapses
Needs Hindsight on the server, or works in singleplayer.
- Always recording: every block placed, broken or changed by players, explosions, pistons and Create contraptions, from the moment Hindsight is installed.
- Press one key in your base and the build is outlined for you. Adjust its sides and pick a length from 15 seconds to 10 minutes.
- It rebuilds from nothing on your screen only. The real world is never touched, and snaps back when you leave.
- Ghost builders: the players who built it appear in the replay, placing the blocks just as they did. Pistons slide blocks into place.
- An orbit camera, follow builder, still or your own view, plus a timeline, a filter by player and named milestones.
- Watch on your own, or share it with everyone nearby, in sync, and export it as a video.
- “Make a video” films a ready-to-post 30-second orbit, widescreen or vertical for Shorts and TikTok, with the date and progress in the picture.
Session replays
Client only. Works on any server, even one without Hindsight, and in singleplayer.
- Records automatically in your worlds and on servers. Turn either off with one button.
- Your ReplayMod and Flashback recordings appear in the same list. ReplayMod files open directly, and any replay converts to ReplayMod or Flashback.
- Fly through the replay as a spectator, or click any player or mob to watch through their eyes.
- Pause, slow down to 0.1x or speed up to 16x, jump anywhere quickly (even backwards in long replays) and drop markers.
- Camera paths from keyframes that can zoom, tilt, follow a player and change the time of day. They go along when you convert a replay for ReplayMod or Flashback.
- Visuals: hide name tags, particles, mobs or any player, and set the time of day or weather. Simple Voice Chat voices are recorded and play back where each player stood.
- Export perfectly smooth video with the game’s sound: any size up to 4K, vertical, 360°, transparent or green-screen sky, MP4, WebM or PNG, and a queue for many shots. Nothing else to install; FFmpeg is used if you have it.
- Trim a replay down to the part you want, and rename replays from the list.
- For video makers: clip the last two minutes with one key, highlights that mark themselves, photo mode up to 8K, fly a camera path to record it, orbits, camera shake, named shots, framing guides, motion blur, separate voice files and chat subtitles.
- Hide names and skins, and when several players record the same session, switch to anyone’s view at the same moment.
Quick start
Build timelapses
- Install Hindsight on the server and on your game. In singleplayer, your game is enough.
- Build something. Hindsight knows about changes made after it was installed.
- Stand in the build and press ' (apostrophe), or type
/hindsight timelapse. - Check the outline, pick a length and press Start. Esc leaves.
Session replays
- Play a world or join a server. A grey line in chat says Hindsight is recording.
- Back on the title screen, press Replays in the top-left corner.
- Pick a recording and press Watch. Fly around, or click a player to see through their eyes.
- Press ' for the replay editor: camera paths, and Export video.

The guide
Build timelapses
- Making a timelapseOpen a timelapse of the build you're standing in, frame it, choose how long it lasts and who watches. Plus what Hindsight records, and what it doesn't.
- Watching a timelapseThe timeline, the cameras, ghost builders, showing one player's work, and watching together with everyone nearby.
- MilestonesMark moments in a build's history, like "Roof done" or "Day 3", and see them as titles during the timelapse.
Session replays
- Recording replaysHow Hindsight records your play sessions on any server and in singleplayer, where the files go, and everything on the Replays screen.
- Watching replays and the editorFlying through a replay, watching through someone's eyes, the playback keys, the replay editor, markers, camera paths, visuals and trimming.
- Exporting videoTurn a camera path or a timelapse into a perfectly smooth video with sound, at any size up to 4K, vertical for phones, in 360°, with motion blur, separate voice files, chat subtitles, or a transparent or green-screen sky.
- For video makersClip the last two minutes, highlights that mark themselves, photo mode for thumbnails, flying a camera path, orbits and camera shake, named shots, framing guides, hiding names, and everyone's point of view.
- Moving from ReplayMod and FlashbackHindsight opens ReplayMod replays and converts to and from ReplayMod and Flashback, so your old recordings come with you, and your new ones can go back the other way.
