A Minecraft mod by Hardline Interactive

    Last Words

When you die, the death screen shows what happened in your last seconds: who killed you and with what, every hit, what your armour stopped, and what would have saved you.

    What it does

Last Words turns the death screen into a recap of your last seconds, in the spirit of League of Legends and Dark Souls. See who killed you, their weapon and the health they had left, every hit you took and how much your armour, enchantments and effects stopped, what you dealt back, and a tip or two on what would have saved you.

After you respawn, an arrow points you back to your items, or to your grave if a grave mod made one, with a countdown until they despawn. Share a death with the server, look back through your last ten, or replay the last three seconds. It works in any modpack, and it’s optional on the server and on your game.

    The recap

Full detail with Last Words on the server too. On its own, your game still measures what it can.

    • Killed by: a player’s face, a mob’s spawn egg or an icon for the damage, their weapon, and the health they had left. If a fall or lava finished you off mid-fight, the one you were fighting is blamed.
    • Damage taken: the total and a bar per source, with players and named mobs on their own lines.
    • Stopped: what armour, enchantments, effects, shields, other mods and absorption hearts took off.
    • Every hit, newest first, with when it landed; hover one for its full breakdown.
    • The damage you dealt back, to your killer and everything else.
    • Next time: up to two tips worked out with vanilla’s formulas, like “Feather Falling IV would have stopped 20 (you’d have lived)”.
    • Where you died, with a Copy button, and how long until your items despawn.

    After you die

The arrow, your history and the replay work on any server; the items timer, graves and shared recaps need Last Words on the server.

    • An arrow back to where you died, with the distance and a countdown until your items despawn.
    • Grave mods: the arrow points at your grave instead. Any grave mod is found by tag or by name; checked with GraveStone and Corail Tombstone.
    • Share your death to chat in one line, with the whole recap in the hover.
    • /lastwords: your last ten deaths here, and who or what kills you most.
    • For admins: /lastwords <player> shows anyone’s last death, even after they’ve logged off.
    • A replay of your last three seconds, the final half second in slow motion, played on your screen only.

    Quick start

    Your first recap

    1. Install Last Words in your game, and on the server for the full recap. In singleplayer, your game is enough.
    2. Die. The recap opens beside the death screen’s buttons (on a small window, press the ☠ Last Words tab in the top corner).
    3. Hover a hit or a source for the details, press ▶ Replay to watch it again, or Share to post it to chat.
    4. Respawn and follow the arrow at the top of the screen back to your items. /lastwords shows the recap again.

    What’s new

    1. 1.0.0

First release: a death recap on the death screen (your killer, their weapon and health, every hit, what your armour stopped, what you dealt back, where you died), tips on what would have saved you, an arrow back to your items or your grave with a despawn timer, sharing, your death history, an admin view and a replay of your last 3 seconds. Optional on both sides.

    Versions

    Minecraft 1.21.1

    Minecraft 1.21.11
    NeoForge and Fabric
    Minecraft 26.2
    NeoForge and Fabric
    Minecraft 26.3
    Fabric
    • The Fabric versions need Fabric API.
    • Last Words is optional on both sides. With it on the server too, the recap is exact and complete; players without it get a short recap in chat.
    • On a server without it, your game measures what it can: what armour stopped, the tips and the items timer need the server.
