I press B and nothing happens

Another mod is probably using B too. Open Options › Controls › Key Binds, find Body Language, and move the emote wheel to a free key. Keys that clash are shown in red.

My friends can’t see my emotes

All of these need to be true:

• The server has Body Language. Without it, only you see your own emotes.
• They have Body Language.
• They’re near you, close enough to see you normally.
• They haven’t turned on Hide other players’ emotes in Settings.

If it’s an emote from a resource pack, they need that pack too.

G says the server doesn’t have Body Language

Hugs and high-fives are arranged by the server, so it needs the mod. Ask whoever runs it to add the jar (see Servers).

G says “Look at a player close by”

Get within 3 blocks of them and point your crosshair at them, then press G again.

There’s no “Join in” button

It only shows when the player you’re looking at is doing an emote that carries on until they move: a dance, Sit, Lie Down and so on. One-off emotes like Wave are over too soon to join. You also need to be within 3 blocks of them, and the server needs Body Language (see dancing together).

The number keys change my hotbar instead

They only pick an emote while the wheel is open, so keep holding B while you press the number.

/emote says there’s no emote called that

Press Tab after /emote to see every name it knows. Emotes from a resource pack need their full name, like mypack:raise_the_roof, and the pack must be turned on. Hug and High-five can’t be started with /emote.

My emote keeps stopping straight away

Moving ends an emote, and that includes being pushed, sneaking, swinging your arm and getting hurt. Stand still with your hands off the movement keys. If you’re holding an item that swings by itself, put it away.

The view doesn’t swing round behind me

It only swings round from first person, and only if Show me from behind while I emote is on in Settings.

My own emote isn’t in the list

Check the resource pack is turned on, then look in the game log for a line starting Skipping emote. It says what’s wrong with the file. See Making your own emotes.

Does it work with other mods that animate the player?

Body Language moves the normal player model, so another mod that changes the same arm and leg poses at the same time may fight with it. If an emote looks odd, try it without the other mod to see which one is responsible.

Can I use it in a modpack, a video or on stream?

Yes, please do. Just get the jar from the official download rather than re-hosting it.

Does it need Server Extras or any other mod?

No. Body Language works on its own, with just NeoForge.
