Band mode
Play Block Band with up to five friends. Invites, picking parts, the synced start, saving bandmates with overdrive, and top scores.
Bands need Block Band on the server as well as on each player’s game.
Starting a band
- Open the Block Band menu (the key right of L, see Controls) and choose Band (play together), then Start a band.
- Click a player’s name under Invite (or type
/band invite <player>). They get a chat message with clickable [Join] and [Decline]. They can also answer from their own Band screen. Invites last two minutes. - Everyone picks an instrument (one player per instrument) and their own difficulty, then presses I’m ready.
- The band leader (marked with a star) picks the song, sets No Fail, and presses Start the song! After a five-second countdown, the song starts at the same moment for everyone.
A band can have up to five players: guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocals.
During the song
- Everyone hears the whole band. When someone misses, their part drops out for everyone until they hit again.
- The band score is at the top, and each bandmate’s score, multiplier and streak are down the right.
- The meter is the whole band’s.
- Esc opens a menu while the song carries on: leave the song, or (leader only) stop it for everyone.
Failing and saving
With No Fail off, a player whose meter runs out fails out: their part goes silent and they wait. A bandmate who sets off overdrive saves them and brings them back in. If every player fails out, the song ends.
Unison bonus
When two or more players set off overdrive within two seconds of each other, the band earns a unison bonus of 500 points for each of them.
After the song
Everyone sees the band’s results: each player’s score, stars and accuracy, and the band’s total.
Top scores
Top scores in the menu shows the server’s best: the top 10 players for each song, instrument and difficulty, and the top 10 band scores.
The audience
Players near the band who aren’t in it hear the song too, louder the closer they are. Speakers near the band carry the sound further, and a Highway Screen shows everyone’s notes live.
Songs for bands
The leader can pick any built-in song, and any of the server’s own songs. Players’ own songs aren’t offered, because the rest of the band wouldn’t have them. When the leader picks one of the server’s songs, everyone’s game downloads it before they can press Ready. See Adding songs.
