Servers
Settings, commands, showing sleepers only to teammates, and what it costs the server.
Sleepers goes on the server only. Players don’t need it, vanilla players included.
Settings
config/sleepers-server.toml, the same file on NeoForge and Fabric. It’s written with every setting and its explanation the first time the server starts. Edit it and run /sleepers reload, or restart.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
enabled |
true |
Show sleepers. Off: no new ones, and the ones there are hidden (kept for when it’s on again). |
noBed |
LOGOUT_SPOT |
Players with no bed: LOGOUT_SPOT lies them down where they logged off, NOTHING shows no sleeper. |
otherDimensions |
true |
Sleepers outside the overworld: beds and logout spots in the Nether, the End and modded dimensions. |
maxAgeDays |
30 (0 to 3650) |
Sleepers of players who haven’t been on this long go away. 0 keeps them until the player is back. |
showLabel |
true |
The name and last-seen label. |
labelDistance |
16 (4 to 64) |
How close players must be to read the label. |
showPlayTime |
true |
Play time on the right-click card. |
skipSpectators |
true |
No sleeper for players who log off in spectator mode. |
showTo |
EVERYONE |
Who sees sleepers: EVERYONE, or TEAMMATES (see below). |
showZs |
true |
The floating z’s. |
dateAfterDays |
14 (0 to 3650) |
From this many days on, “last seen 3 Oct” instead of “last seen 3 weeks ago”. 0 always says how long ago. Dates are in the server’s time zone. |
Only teammates
With showTo = "TEAMMATES", a player sees a sleeper only if they’re on the same team:
- the same vanilla scoreboard team (
/team), - the same party in FTB Teams, when it’s installed,
- the same party in Open Parties and Claims, when it’s installed.
Players on no team then see nobody’s sleeper. Sleepers doesn’t depend on either mod: it only looks for them when they’re there.
Commands
| Command | Who | What it does |
|---|---|---|
/sleepers |
everyone | Says whether you’re shown asleep while you’re offline. |
/sleepers optout |
everyone | Nobody sees you asleep while you’re offline. Saved with the world. |
/sleepers optin |
everyone | Back to being shown. |
/sleepers list |
admins (permission level 2) | Every sleeper: where (click one to teleport there) and when they were last seen. |
/sleepers clear <player> |
admins | Takes that player’s sleeper away (they get a new one next time they log off). |
/sleepers clearall |
admins | Takes them all away. |
/sleepers reload |
admins | Reads config/sleepers-server.toml again after you’ve edited it. |
Where it’s saved
In the world folder, data/sleepers.dat: every sleeper and every player who opted out. Back up the world and you’ve backed it up.
What it costs
Very little. Nothing runs per tick per player. Once a second the server checks each sleeper (its bed, its age, its label) and which players are near it, and sends a few small packets only when that changes. The z’s glide upwards in players’ own games, so each one is three small packets, not one a tick.
Player and server mods
- Minimaps: Xaero’s Minimap and World Map, JourneyMap and FTB Chunks don’t show sleepers. Xaero’s hides them through its “hide invisible entities” option, which is on unless someone turns it off.
- Jade names the bed under a sleeper, not the sleeper.
- Skin mods: on offline-mode servers, a skin mod that puts the skin in the player’s profile (like SkinsRestorer) gives sleepers the right skin.
